Rheumatology is an internal medicine subspecialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of uncommon systemic inflammatory autoimmune diseases and arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spondyloarthropathy, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Systemic Vasculitis.

Cabrillo Center for Rheumatic Disease (CCRD) is a Rheumatology private practice clinic led by Dr. Arthur R. Mabaquiao who specializes and focuses on diagnosis and treatment of diseases involving joints, cartilage, muscles, bones and various organ systems as well as musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, and metabolic disorders such as gout and osteoporosis.

CCRD is dedicated to providing excellent, reliable care for the patients with rheumatic and systemic autoimmune diseases. We utilize a full array of diagnostic modalities, including blood tests, X-Ray, ultrasound and MRI, in order to make the diagnosis and we provide each patient with an individualized plan of care. We are doing our best to incorporate cutting edge therapies in our practice and to accommodate patient’s needs and preferences.

  • Dr. Mabaquiao

Arthur “Ray” Mabaquiao, MD

Dr. Mabaquiao is a board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

After finishing his undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy in 1990 Dr. Arthur “Ray” Mabaquiao worked for a year before moving onward. He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1995 and then completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of California, Irvine in 1998. He finished his Rheumatology fellowship in 2000 at UCI as well. He moved to San Diego in 2002 and has been in his private practice since 2005.
Dr. Mabaquiao takes pride in his state of the art clinic work with intravenous and other injectable biologic therapies as well as musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations and guided injections.
His desire to practice "cutting edge" medicine and to further his field blends well with his clinical research studies with TriWest Research Associates.

Ara Dikranian, MD

Dr. Ara Dikranian, Board Certified Rheumatology
Dr. Ara Dikranian has been practicing rheumatology in San Diego and the Imperial Valley since 2004. “Dr. D,” as he is known to his patients, comes from a long family line of health care providers, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and two uncles. His enthusiasm, compassion and love for rheumatology are greater today than ever before. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in psychobiology in 1991 and his M.D. in 1995, both from the University of Southern California. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in rheumatology, at the University of California, San Diego between 1995 and 2000, when he received his rheumatology board certification. He has enjoyed the clinical practice of rheumatology as well as his participation in scores of rheumatology related clinical studies. He has served as chairman of the Arthritis Foundation San Diego chapter executive committee following years of volunteering at the previously sponsored free clinics, and more recently as part of the San Diego County Medical Foundation's Project Access. He is privileged to be a consultant and speaker for various pharmaceutical companies. He is an avid traveler and an aspiring gastronome.

  • Dr. Busa

Swapna Busa, MD

Dr. Busa is a Board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Dr. Sawpna Busa earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, India in 2007, her Medical Degree Internal Medicine from University of California San Francisco Fresno in 2012 and her Medical Degree in Rheumatology, University of California San Diego in 2015.
She is also known for her:
      • Comprehensive medical education along with clinical experience in diverse rheumatologic pathologies
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
      • Experience with quality improvement initiatives
      • Recipient of excellence in physician values award

Her desire and passion to practice medicine and she was recognized for her clinical excellence, compassion, Integrity, vision and selfless dedication to the care of the Veterans.

Jennifer Pratt, MMS, PAC, ATC

After finishing her Bachelor degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Athletic Training, Jennifer Pratt became a Certified Athletic Trainer and worked at San Diego Mesa College as an Athletic Trainer and clinical instructor. She worked in Hospice care as volunteer and helped in an underserved clinic in an underprivileged area in San Diego County. Before attending PA school, Ms. Pratt worked as a medical assistant with an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Jennifer Pratt completed Physician Assistant program at Stanford School of Medicine, while concomitantly finishing her Master’s degree in Medical Sciences.
Ms. Pratt has found a passion for helping others through medicine and research.
